Management Structure_

SMEC's organisational structure has been developed to realise the corporate vision of providing quality consulting and development solutions worldwide and to meet the practical needs of a group which is growing rapidly in both turnover and range of services. The purpose of the structure is to provide clearly delineated lines of authority and accountability to ensure the highest possible quality of service to clients.

SMEC Holdings Ltd

SMEC operates through a number of different companies linked by SMEC Holdings Ltd. This is a staff owned public company registered in Australia under the Corporations Act 1989. SMEC Holdings owns at least 50% of the equity in any SMEC subsidiary and its Board is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of the SMEC Group of Companies.

SMEC Operations

SMEC's consulting activities are delivered through this division of the Group. The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for management of the company, assisted at a senior level by:

  • General Managers responsible for specific areas of professional services and technical disciplines and;
  • a network of Regional and Country Managers responsible for SMEC's operations in particular geographical areas
  • two General Managers International who between them oversee all of SMEC's operations outside Australia.

Though their respective disciplinary and regional roles these executives are responsible for managing SMEC's projects, deploying our professional and technical resources and developing and implementing our client liaison and business development strategies. The quality of SMEC's consulting services is monitored closely by a Manager, Quality Assurance who reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

The corporate vehicles for contracts and the delivery of services to clients are SMEC Australia Pty Ltd and SMEC International Pty Ltd.

SMEC Developments

This is the entrepreneurial arm of SMEC's operations which handles private infrastructure investment projects and development of new technologies.

Subsidiaries

The SMEC Group of Companies also includes a number of subsidiaries established to meet regional requirements or to pursue specialised sector activities. The SMEC Group currently has around 700 staff. All staff are encouraged to acquire shares in either SMEC Holdings or in the subsidiary in which they work wherever this is possible.
