SMEC IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA (PNG)

 SMEC has been contributing to the  economic and social development of Papua New Guinea almost continuously since the mid-1970s. This contribution has encompassed a wide range of inputs from studies of the geological and hydrological resources of the country to transport and energy planning, project design and management, health care and training. Projects have been located throughout the country. Clients include PNG agencies, international aid organisations and private companies.

In recent years SMEC has provided assistance in reconstruction after natural disasters and civil strife in Rabaul and Bougainville.

SMEC’s projects in PNG frequently involve a high level of consultation with the local communities to ensure that stakeholders understand the nature of the project proposed and the implications for them of its implementation. Building community support through providing information and seeking feedback is essential for success in a very sophisticated social environment.

SMEC PNG operations are managed by a subsidiary registered in Port Moresby.
