For some years SMEC has supported the Forum which is held annually for around 300 students who are about to enter their final year of high school and intend to pursue careers in science, engineering or technology. During an intensive program lasting two weeks the students are introduced to researchers, visit national institutions in the Canberra region and are given presentations by specialists on current trends in various aspects of science and technology.

A total of more than 60 students visited SMEC’s head office in Cooma, south of Canberra, for a half-day introduction to the company’s operations. The students met experienced engineers and recent graduates who outlined aspects of their work. A demonstration of SMEC’s physical model testing laboratory created great interest.
