SMEC has supported the Australian Youth Ambassadors program since it was introduced by AusAID in 1998. The program provides financial support for young Australians with professional qualifications to enable them to spend up to 12 months making a practical contribution to the development of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

SMEC encourages its younger professionals to consider participation in the program as part of their preparation for a future career in international development. The program complements measures which SMEC takes to provide professional development opportunities and international experience for the next generation of senior staff.
