Practical experience is an important component of most
courses. SMEC recognises this and we look for it when reviewing the CVs
submitted by young graduates. In turn we try to provide opportunities for
experience where possible. The problem is that we get a very large number of
applications… far more than we can possibility accommodate.
The opportunities for a position will depend entirely on
workload at the time. To be successful you will probably fit the following
profile:-
- Commencing the final year of your studies at a recognised
university
- Completing a degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical
Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Environmental Science or
alternatively a double degree incorporating any of these disciplines.
- Interested to join SMEC as a graduate at the completion of
your studies.
Applications should be made in writing to your nearest SMEC
Australian or regional office. Because the positions are dependent on local
workloads we are unable to accept applications through the Head Office or
through the “Recruitment” web address.
Please note we cannot accept the following:-
- Applications from outside your specific geographic region.
For example Australian graduates applying to Australian offices will be
considered; Indian Graduates applying to the Delhi Head Office will be
considered, etc. It is rarely possible to place work experience students in
developing country projects or offices. It is just about impossible to place
students from outside Australia into an Australian office.
- Applications from disciplines outside our core business. We
cannot provide experience in IT, business development, or marginal engineering
disciplines such as telecommunications, chemical, mining, etc.
Preference will always be given to those entering final year.
Applications should include a covering letter indicating your career interests
and a detailed CV.
SMEC is an equal opportunity employer.
