SMEC’s Civil Infrastructure Group pursues business opportunities in project studies, engineering design/tender documentation, construction supervision, project management, and provision of services to public and private developers of hydroelectric and infrastructure projects.

The Group’s business activities centres on:

• Geological investigations
• Civil & structural design
• Geotechnical and materials engineering
• Construction / Project management
• Soil and foundation engineering
• Hydroelectric projects
• Dam engineering
• Financial and operational studies
• Tunnel & underground works
• Power purchase agreements

The Group will work with SMEC’s international office network to expand into general infrastructure and multi-disciplinary projects, amongst others. Areas that will be considered include:

• Building design & construction
• Industrial developments
• Mining projects
• Any other engineering projects outside current core areas

Currently, the group is actively pursuing hydroelectric projects in China, India, Pakistan and Malaysia. A major infrastructure project currently being pursued is the Kra Canal Project in Thailand. Projects involving complex soil mechanics, dredging and foundation engineering technologies are also being pursued.
