Planning

Philosophy

The purpose of planned development is to facilitate the sustained survival of the human race at a desirable and global level.

Our world has seen the results of poor planning in areas ranging from sprawling metropolises to the densely overpopulated areas of developing countries. We believe that effective planning and environmental management are essential components of all urban development if we are to succeed in alleviating poverty, promoting equality, achieving sustainability and ensuring higher standards of living across the globe. SMEC has a strong history of planning projects that demonstrate how these ideals can be put into practice in viable and practical ways.

By planning the physical development of urban and rural areas, planners aim to facilitate the social wellbeing of a community. Social and community consultation is just as essential to planning as planning is to development. SMEC’s methodology is to ensure urban and regional development reflects the needs and aspirations of the people who live in and depend upon these areas not only for their livelihoods but for their quality of life in general.
