SMEC has considerable expertise in the international sourcing and purchasing of a wide range of medical supplies for use in developing countries. At present SMEC acts as a buyer for several Pacific Island Ministries of Health, meeting the full spectrum of their medical needs, as well as the Australian Red Cross, supplying medical and health care items for humanitarian relief programs. SMEC's purchasing staff are fully aware of the WHO list of recommended generics. Items commonly supplied include:

  • drugs
  • dressings
  • tubing
  • x-ray and ultrasound equipment
  • endoscopes
  • cleaning products
  • uniforms
  • dental equipment

SMEC holds an Australian Government licence to deal in scheduled drugs for export.

SMEC can also arrange for the repair and return of equipment purchased by SMEC which requires servicing or repairs and any insurance claims as required.
