During the past decade an increasing proportion of SMEC's operations have been directed to addressing problems of urban infrastructure in Australia and in a range of countries throughout the Asia-Pacific region. This encompasses not only core sectors of physical infrastructure such as transport, energy and water supply systems but also the institutional infrastructure necessary to plan and manage urban development and associated environmental problems. SMEC;s capability covers a wide range of professional services, including:

  • urban infrastructure planning and design
  • pre-feasibility investigation and feasibility studies
  • drainage and flood mitigation
  • solid waste management
  • traffic engineering
  • institutional strengthening.

SMEC not only utilises its own professional staff but also co-ordinates inputs from a wide variety of public and private sector organisations such as specialised consulting firms, research institutes and municipal authorities.
