Women in SMEC
| The staff profile of SMEC has changed
considerably over the yeas in accordance with changing social values and
conditions. One of the most marked changes is the growing prominence of
women in both number and seniority. |
|
The proportion of women in professional positions varies among the different
part of the SMEC Group. In the engineering divisions the company is still
staffed primarily by male engineers, though the number of female graduates in
engineering is increasing steadily and is reflected in SMEC's recruitment. In
other parts of the group such as environment or social infrastructure the
proportion of female professionals is at least 50 per cent.
SMEC offers its female staff a high quality working environment, including:
- a high degree of professional autonomy and responsibility
- professional respect from colleagues and clients
- demanding tasks involving complex problem solving and project management
- opportunities to work around Australian or internationally.
The SMEC Board and management is committed to providing the greatest possible
equality of opportunity for all staff in both professional development and
career progression. As far as possible the company seeks to overcome gender or
other social stereotypes and make appointments on the basis of professional
ability, experience and development potential. Women already occupy a number of
responsible positions and the proportion of women in senior management is
expected to increase steadily in the years ahead.
SMEC encourages women to consider SMEC as a possible employer and to seek a
stimulating and rewarding career in the company.
